Una de las bandas de la NWOBHM que más ha ido cambiando a lo largo del tiempo, pudiendo quizá por eso mantenerse en el tiempo a diferencia de muchos de sus compañeros de generación.
Para este LP debut, una de las joyas del momento, el sonido característico sucio y aguerrido de los primeros 80 en Gran Bretaña. Un clásico a rescatar de esta gran banda escocesa.

Aunque los 80 no fueron la mejor época para el progresivo, casi desaperecido del panorama musical desde la enorme oleada de los 70, grandes bandas como Queensryche, Fates Warning o, a la misma altura a pesar de que actualmente no sean muy recordados y hayan adquirido el status de banda de culto, estos Crimson Glory, sentaron las bases para la resurrección de los 90 en forma de metal progresivo, de la mano de Dream Theater y demás compañeros de generación. De enorme calidad compositiva e istrumental, esta banda americana llegó a publicar tres discos en los últimos 80, de los que "Trascendence" es el segundo además de para muchos el mejor, que combinaron con acierto el power metal americano, la melodía y el gusto progresivo.

En 1977 , Enid Willians ( bajo ) y Kim McAuliffe ( guitarra ) , decidieron formar una banda unicamente integrada por mujeres , llamandola Painted Lady. Poco despues se les unieron Deidre Cartwright ( guitarra ) y Tina (bateria ). Durante un tiempo hay varios cambios de formación.
En 1978 , entra Kelly Johnson y Denise dufort ( guitarrra y bateria respectivamente ) y es cuando deciden cambiar el nombre a Girlschool.En diciembre de 1978 graban un single " Take it all way" en City records. Y consiguen ser teloneras de Motörhead en la gira presentación de "Overkill".
En 1979 , Lemmy habla de ellas a Gerry Bron de Bronze records, consiguiendo por fin en 1980 un contrato discográfico y graban su debut álbum "Demolition" que llego a entrar en el top 30 de las listas inglesas.

Gran trabajo de una de las leyendas más grandes del metal y uno de mis cantantes preferidos Después de una carrera en solitario en la que parecía repetirse demasiado asíduamente en las formas tipo "Heaven and hell" y una breve colaboración con Sabbath vuelve con disco más variado.
Temas clásicos de gran sonido metálico, como la potente "Killing the dragon", "Along cames a spider" o "Better in the dark" se alternan con otros más relajados confirmando éste como su mejor trabajo en mucho tiempo.

"The Final Frontier" fue probablemente el disco de mayor repercusión de la corta trayectoria en los 80s de Keel, banda de heavy rock encabezada por el vocalista de mismo nombre, llegando a obtener reconocimiento en este año de publicaciones especializadas e incluso a ayudarse para la producción de este disco de, de Gene Simmons (KISS), que hace un buen trabajo de arreglos aunque hoy día se eche en falta una mayor potencia en las guitarras.

Keel fue la banda de Ron Keel, el que fuera vocalista de los Steeler (los Steeler americanos, banda en la que militó Y.Malmsteen antes de saltar a la fama con Alcatrazz, no confundir con los Steeler alemanes de Axel R. Pell) y que tras la corta carrera de esa banda en los primeros 80s llegó a audicionar para Black Sabbath (sin suerte) hasta formar su propio proyecto. Tras el debut "Lay Down The Law", "The Right To Rock" consiguió cierta notoriedad y construyó su mejor época entre este y su siguiente "The Final Frontier" (1986). Heavy rock de la vieja escuela.

Aunque es opinión casi común el hecho de que son los discos de la segunda mitad de los 80 los más importantes, decisivos e influyentes, a la vez que para la mayoría los mejores, de la larga carrera de Running Wild, su trayectoria ha gozado de regularidad desde entonces y a pesar de cambios de formación los alemanes han seguido adelante a partir de entonces creando discos con mejor o peor resultado pero siempre dentro de un alto estándar de calidad. "Pile Of Skulls" es problablemente su mayor y más pretencioso esfuerzo y el más conseguido trabajo después de aquella época.
